Monsoon Progress Note 1
The west branch of the monsoon remains stalled over parts of the South Arabian Sea and southern parts of Kerala, while the eastern branch is located near the India-Bangladesh border after covering the northeastern states.
Conditions are likely to become favourable for the further advancement of the monsoon into the Arabian Sea and along the west coast during the next 2–3 days.
Depth of Cross-equatorial flow is expected to strengthen further and gradually extend to the north along with the east-west shear zone, allowing the southwest monsoon to progress further north.
There is a possibility that an Upper Air Cyclonic circulation (UAC) embedded in E-W share zone may form at mid-level Sea along/off the west coast around 5/7th june, which is likely to move nearly northward gradually.
Under its influence, Monsoon may progress rapidly along west cost during next 10 days.
Monsoon may move into Mangalore (Karnataka) by 4th-6th June.
Monsoon is likely to advance into Goa by 7/9th June.
And Monsoon May reach South Konkan coast by around 10th June.
The further progress of the monsoon depends on the subsequent movement of the UAC/shear zone.
